I am pleased that another of my small paintings sold, it was posted with a pay pal button here on my blog originally. It was recently hanging in a holiday small works show in the Newburyport Art Association. the show has a two painting limit for each participating artist. I entered it along with a small painting shown below involving a pig....which will hang in the gallery for the duration of the show unless it too sells. If you live locally, you can see my work in person at the gallery. I can keep replacing any sold small works with fresh ones till the show is over. There are many very nice small paintings by the Newburyport Art Association artists in the gallery for the holiday show.

The past month or so has been very busy and I have not been producing small daily works to post. Instead, here is some of the artwork I have been doing. I am working on a still life following and learning the process taught at Ingbretson studios, it takes much longer. I painted the small landscape sketch (riverscape?) a couple weeks ago. It was an outdoor painting day at the studio, many of the students participated and we had beautiful weather. I took a good picture of it with my camera, maybe I will finish it someday.

This is my second attempt at a "color study" just hitting the color notes and not worrying about producing a painting. The gold cloth in the background is painted tooooo yellow. I see areas of the set up that could use adjustment, for example, I may need to throw a slightly darker tone on the back white "wall." Here is some of the exercises I am currently busy with at Ingbretson Studios. Paul's brushwork is evident in the colorful study at top, he took my brush and generously worked some on this one for my instruction. I will save it as a good example for my records of a "start." The aim is to "hit the color notes" in the still life as accurately as possible and only roughly indicate the shapes of the items. I have painted since childhood, but today is my very first day to pick up paint and paint in this studio! I have been training in the Boston Style of fine art for the past 3 semesters. Even though I have not been busy with my own painting very much since March due to a fractured wrist (rollerskating with our daughter and her classmates), I can do some artwork--but it does make my wrist hurt after a while. "Hold On"

I found out today that my painting "Hold On" was juried into a spring member's show at the Newburyport Art Association. It will hang in their gallery for viewing and sale most of April. Check out the NAA web site here. A slight fracture to my wrist while rollerskating with daughter's high school has slowed me down a little in the art department--it sure hurts. I have a hand /wrist brace with velcro straps to stabilize my wrist movement while it heals--I can still draw and paint.
