The brown paper charcoal drawing is part of the studio process which helps an artist determine if he has an acceptable value pattern and composition. I have a long way yet to go on the painting, this type of work is very representational and each area must be as true to color value and form so it is a long process. There is much to be learned through this kind of training. I am thankful for the the wise guidance of my art teacher!

This is my second attempt at a "color study" just hitting the color notes and not worrying about producing a painting. The gold cloth in the background is painted tooooo yellow. I see areas of the set up that could use adjustment, for example, I may need to throw a slightly darker tone on the back white "wall." Here is some of the exercises I am currently busy with at Ingbretson Studios. Paul's brushwork is evident in the colorful study at top, he took my brush and generously worked some on this one for my instruction. I will save it as a good example for my records of a "start." The aim is to "hit the color notes" in the still life as accurately as possible and only roughly indicate the shapes of the items. I have painted since childhood, but today is my very first day to pick up paint and paint in this studio! I have been training in the Boston Style of fine art for the past 3 semesters. Even though I have not been busy with my own painting very much since March due to a fractured wrist (rollerskating with our daughter and her classmates), I can do some artwork--but it does make my wrist hurt after a while. This is the next large painting I am working on-again a nightime indoor pic that needs reposting when sun is out..... There are so many parts that still need work. One of my favorite tricks this week is to turn the large paintings upside down and try to paint that way, only looking at the subjects as shapes and colors, to keep looking anew at the items and better notice accuracy or lack of it. It really helps point out to me errors of drawing and value. This and all the larger works may show up with a pay pal button on this blog when they are done. I have always loved and been busy making art. Education: B.S. in Graphic Design from SUNY at Buffalo and a Master of Liberal Arts degree in 2008 (concentrated in Art History), from Harvard University. Six years post graduate study and training at Ingbretson Studios http://studio.ingbretson.com/ learning the Boston Style of contemporary realism. I paint on a regular basis and am busy teaching art.
